Leaks In Union, ME Basement Sealed With FlexiSpan
Challenge
A Union, ME homeowner had been suffering from a leak in their basement for quite some time. This leak was being caused by two cracks forming in two of the basement walls. Unable to keep the water out themselves, they called TC Hafford Basement Systems to get the job done!
Solution
Once our crew arrived, they inspected the two cracks to find the best solution for each crack. Since their locations were quite different, they each would need a different method applied to seal them. To start on the first crack, a coarse brush was used to scrape away any debris lingering in the crack. The crew then laid the first layer of FlexiSpan sealant onto the crack. This layer alone would not be enough to seal the crack. A foam mat is then placed over the tops of this sealant. After a final layer of sealant is applied on top of the mat the FlexiSpan is complete. This process will seal out water while also being flexible enough to shift slightly with the crack should the crack should contort at all.
The second crack was not on an open wall surface, it was running behind several wooden beams. To seal this crack a different method was used. To begin, this crack was also brushed clear. A preliminary coat of sealant was then applied over the top of the crack, with plastic plugs placed every few inches up the crack. After this layer dried, the ends of the plugs were removed, creating tubes leading inside the crack. We injected Polyurethane in through each of these, all the way up the crack until it was filled, plugging them again after each injection. Once the Polyurethane spreads throughout the tiniest nooks within the crack it will harden in place and form a perfect seal.
These two cracks will no longer pose a problem to this homeowner. The leaks will now be sealed, with no chance of leakage!
