Milo, ME Basement Waterproofed Properly With WaterGuard
Challenge
A homeowner in Milo, ME had been struggling to keep their basement dry. The concrete floor was somehow gathering moisture across the surface, which the homeowner was concerned might start to damage the property. To find out the source of the problem and have it stopped, the homeowner called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
Once our crew arrived at the home, they inspected the space to find the cause of the moisture problem. The water had been leaking in directly through the foundation, due to high water-pressure in the surrounding soil. To stop this, we dug out a shallow trench in the floor around the perimeter of the basement. Within this trench, we laid down our WaterGuard piping. These pipes are then buried beneath a fresh layer of cement. Within the floor, these pipes will capture any moisture trying to leak through and guide it to the sump for removal. This will keep the surface free of water in the future.
To handle the water-removal, we installed a SuperSump sump pump. This pump will force the water up and out of the home through a PVC discharge line. The SuperSump can move over 2,600 gallons of water every hour, more than enough power to keep this basement water-free. Following the discharge line outside, we made a few additions before we were finished. The first was an IceGuard pipe segment, which has special holes built into it. Any water blocked by ice or other debris can exit the line here, protecting the sump from an overflow. Finally, the water exits through a LawnScape discharge point on the end of the line.
With their new basement system in place, this homeowner can now utilize their basement without fear of water damage. The WaterGuard will keep this floor dry for many years to come!
