WaterGuard Protects Anson, ME Basement From Outside Water
Challenge
A homeowner in Anson, ME had been living with a damp, dirt basement for years. Since the space had no proper barrier to protect from moisture, any water in the surrounding soil leaked in with ease. To put an end to this leakage and use the space for their storage, the homeowner called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
Once our crew arrived, they began pouring a fresh cement floor right away. This would add a flat surface which would allow the homeowner to utilize the space with ease. This was no ordinary slab of concrete though. This slab had WaterGuard piping installed within it as it was poured. These pipes sit just beneath the surface, and will capture any water trying to leak in through even the concrete. This trapped water is guided through the WaterGuard to the sump for removal. Now no more moisture will appear on the surface of this basement floor.
Within the sump, this homeowner had no pump. Because there would be an increased concentration of water coming from the WaterGuard, this sump was going to need a pump. We installed a SuperSump sump pump to take care of this problem. The SuperSump can move up to 2,650 gallons of water every hour. This water is forced up and out of the home through a PVC discharge line. To keep this pump operational during any weather, we attached an UltraSump backup battery. This battery will enable the SuperSump too keep operating, even when the home is without power. The UltraSump will allow the SuperSump to pump up to 11,000 gallons on once charge.
Outside the home, we made two key additions to the discharge line before we were finished. The first was an IceGuard attachment added just as the line left the home. This special piece of pipe has angled holes which will not affect normal water flow. If the line becomes blocked by ice or other debris, these holes come into play by allowing any trapped water to escape before backing up the line. This prevents an overflow in the sump. Finally, we ended the line with a LawnScape discharge point. The water exits here onto the ground, where it will drain away. This water is far enough from the home where it will no longer cause any problems for this homeowner.
Now that there is a proper floor and basement system in place, this Anson, ME homeowner can utilize their basement to its fullest potential. No more moisture will be entering this space any time soon!
