WaterGuard Protects Shapleigh, ME Basement From Water Damage
Challenge
A homeowner in Shapleigh, ME had been living with a damp basement. This space would almost always have moisture on the floor and walls. This made using the space impossible, unless the homeowner wanted their belongings to become damp. To have the space kept dry for future use, the homeowner called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
Upon arriving at the home, the crew started work by location where the moisture was entering through. This being the foundation of the basement, it was no surprise the homeowner couldn’t stop the problem on their own. To put an end to this leakage, we began by digging out a shallow trench around the perimeter of the basement floor. This trench was where we installed WaterGuard piping. These pipes, buried under a fresh layer of cement, will capture any and all water leaking through toward the interior of the basement. The water trapped within the WaterGuard follows it until it reaches the sump, and is then passed on for removal.
Taking care of the removal process, we installed a SuperSump sump pump. The water coming from the WaterGuard flows directly into the SuperSump, and is forced up and out of the home through a PVC discharge line. This pump can move up to 2,650 gallons of water every hour. This power is sure to keep this basement free of water! To keep the SuperSump going in any conditions, we attached an UltraSump backup battery. This batter will keep the SuperSump going even if the home loses power. These two devices working together will keep the basement water-free in any weather.
Now that the moisture on the floor had been dealt with, we installed a SaniDry XP dehumidifier to deal with the airborne moisture. This device will take in the surrounding air, and pull the moisture out. This collected water is passed to the sump for removal while the dried air is circulated back into the basement. Outside the home, we attached an IceGuard pipe segment to the discharge line. This piece has holes built into it which will not affect normal water flow. They will only allow trapped water to escape. This prevents an overflow in the sump in the event the line becomes blocked by ice or other debris.
With a proper basement system in place, this basement will remain dry for years to come! This homeowner can now utilize the space however they please!
