WaterGuard Piping Saves Corinth, ME Basement From Leakage
Challenge
A couple in Corinth, ME owned a dirt basement. This basement was constantly damp, due to the moisture in the soil being able to enter easily. Needing the space for storage, the couple called TC Hafford Basement Systems to have the basement waterproofed properly.
Solution
Because of the dirt floor, before we could start the installation of the waterproofing products, we first needed to install a proper floor. To do this, we poured a fresh slab of concrete onto the floor of the basement. While pouring this slab, we installed the first product simultaneously. This was the WaterGuard piping which rests just beneath the surface of the slab. Buried beneath the cement, the WaterGuard pipes work within the floor. Since water can still pass through concrete under the right conditions, the WaterGuard piping will capture this water and guide it to the sump for removal before it reaches the surface.
Because we poured a brand-new floor, we also needed to create a new sump as well. After making a hole for a sump, the basement was going to need a decent pump. Because of the WaterGuard piping would be carrying all of the previously spread out water to the sump, the flow would be more concentrated. To take on this water-removal, we installed a SuperSump sump pump. This pump can move over 2,600 gallons of water per hour, which it forces up and out of the home through a PVC discharge line.
This line carries the water a safe distance from the home before letting it out onto the ground. The water exits the line through a LawnScape discharge point, where it can drain away without causing any more trouble back at the home. As the water exits the home, it passes through a special segment of pipe called an IceGuard. This piece has holes build into it which are oriented in a way that none of the exiting water will be able to leak out. But if a blockage occurs in the line, these holes will allow this blocked water to escape without backing up to and overflowing the sump.
With a fresh basement floor and a basement system in place, this couple can now utilize their basement without fear of water damage. The WaterGuard piping will keep their basement safe for many years to come!
