Farmingdale, ME Basement Protected By SuperSump
Challenge
A homeowner in Farmingdale, ME had been having trouble with water gathering in their basement. After living with these damp conditions for several months, unable to stop the water on their own, the homeowner decided it was time to do something about it. To have the space waterproofed properly, they called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
Once our crew arrived at the home, they first inspected the basement to see what would be the best option to keep the space dry. We began the waterproofing by upgrading the existing sump in the basement with a SuperSump sump pump. This pump can handle up to 2,650 gallons of water per hour. This water is forced up and out of the home through a PVC discharge line. To keep the SuperSump operating under any conditions, we attached an UltraSump backup battery to the sump. This will keep it pumping even when the home is without power. Now no matter how hard it rains, this basement floor will remain water-free.
With the water gathering on the floor dealt with, we now needed to handle the moisture in the atmosphere of the basement. This airborne moisture could cause just as much trouble as water collecting on the floor. To eliminate this moisture, we installed a SaniDry XP dehumidifier. This will take in the moist air, and remove any moisture from it. The moisture is then passed to the sump for removal while the dried air is circulated back into the basement. Finally, outside the home, we attached an IceGuard pipe piece to the discharge line to prevent any overflows in the sump. This piece of pipe has holes built into it which do not affect normal water flow. However, they do allow water which has been blocked by ice or other debris to escape the line before backing up to the sump.
This new basement system is sure to keep this basement water-free. This homeowner will no longer need to put up with a wet floor or damp air any longer!
