Leaking Norridgewock, ME Basement Waterproofed With WaterGuard
Challenge
A homeowner in Norridgewock, ME had a basement with two large wall cracks. This was causing standing water to pool up on the floor of the basement. To have the cracks sealed, and the basement waterproofed, the homeowner called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
After an initial inspection of the basement, the water was not only leaking in through the cracks. The foundation itself had been letting water through from the outside soil. Before we sealed the cracks, we worked on keeping the basement safe from water leaking in from the ground. To do this, we buried WaterGuard piping around the perimeter of the basement floor. These pipes were concealed beneath a fresh layer of cement, and will take in any moisture traveling through the concrete. This water then follows the piping to the sump in the basement which will handle the water-removal.
Next, to start dealing with the cracks, we brushed them both clear of debris and dust using a coarse brush. We then applied an initial layer of sealant over each crack, with plastic plugs placed incrementally along the cracks, held within the sealant. After this layer dried, we took the ends of the plugs out, creating tubes leading into the cracks. Through these tubes we injected Polyurethane, capping the plugs after each injection. This spreads throughout the crack as it is injected, filling even the smallest gaps. The Polyurethane then hardens in place, completely sealing the crack off from moisture penetration.
With the WaterGuard in place and the cracks sealed, this basement should stay dry for many years to come! This homeowner will no longer need to deal with standing water on their basement floor.
