Madison, ME Basement Protected With WaterGuard

Challenge

With a wet basement floor, this Madison, ME homeowner was helpless to remove the water. Seeking immediate assistance with the problem, they searched online. After no time at all they called TC Hafford Basement Systems to get the space waterproofed properly.

Solution

The first thing we did upon arriving at the home was identify the location of the leak. Water had been coming up through the concrete foundation. Due to high hydrostatic pressure, water was being forced through. To stop this, we began by digging out a trench around the perimeter of the concrete floor. Within this trench, we installed WaterGuard piping. These pipes were then buried beneath a fresh layer of cement where they will continue to operate. The WaterGuard captures moisture as it passes through the foundation, preventing it from ever reaching the surface. This trapped water is then guided through the pipes to the sump for removal.

To take on the water removal, we installed a TripleSafe sump pump in this basement floor. The TripleSafe contains three pumps, each activating at different times to keep the basement water-free. The primary pump will remove the majority of the water, up until it either fails or malfunctions for any reason. This is when the secondary pump will take over and continue to remove the water gathering in the sump. The third and final pump is a special battery-operated pump which will keep the basement free of water during power outages. The TripleSafe is sure to keep the basement water-free under any conditions, and forces all of the water up and out of the home through a PVC discharge line.

With the water removal system in place, we moved on to installing support systems. The first was BrightWall panels lining the walls of the basement. These plastic panels give the basement a clean bright look, while focusing any moisture coming through the walls down into the WaterGuard pipes. This helps keep the atmosphere dry within the space. Finishing this project, we installed a SaniDry CX dehumidifier on the floor. This device will take in the moist air within the basement, and remove the moisture. This moisture is passed on to the TripleSafe for removal while the dried air is circulated back into the basement. With the SaniDry in place, the air quality in the space will stay dry and healthy.

This homeowner is now worry free when it comes to moisture entering their basement. They are now free to do whatever they want with the space, even turn it into a finished, livable space.
