WaterGuard Saves Paris, ME Basement From Flooding
Challenge
A homeowner in Paris, ME had been suffering from standing water within their basement. This flooding had causes some damage, and was a serious problem for the homeowner. Unable to keep the space dry on their own, the homeowner called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
Once our crew arrived, our first objective was to locate the source of the moisture. This being the foundation, we began the installation of the waterproofing system best fitted to this situation. To begin, we dug out a shallow trench in the concrete floor, following the walls around the outside perimeter. We then laid WaterGuard piping within this trench, surrounding the basement floor. Buried underneath a fresh layer of cement, the WaterGuard will capture any moisture trying to leak in through the foundation. Trapping the water inside the pipes, the WaterGuard will guide this water to the sump for removal.
To take on the responsibility of water removal, we installed a SuperSump sump pump. This pump can handle up to 2,650 gallons of water every hour. This will ensure the basement stays free of water. The SuperSump forces the water up and out of the home through a PVC discharge line. We then attached an UltraSump backup battery to the SuperSump to keep it going in the most intense conditions. The UltraSump will give the SuperSump and extra 11,000 gallons of pumping before requiring a charge. With these systems working within the sump, no water would be sitting idly by in this basement from now on.
Finally, outside, we made two additions to the discharge line to help keep things moving. The first of these additions was an IceGuard pipe section. This segment has holes built into it, which will not affect normal water flow coming from the sump. However, the holes will allow any water trapped in the pipe to escape without overflowing the sump. This would occur if the line became blocked by ice or other debris. We then ended the line with a LawnScape discharge point. The water exits here, draining away into the ground a safe distance from the home.
With their new system in place, this homeowner will no longer need to worry about flooding in their basement. The WaterGuard piping will keep the surface of this floor dry for many years to come!
