Dirt Basement In East Millinocket, ME Waterproofed
Challenge
A homeowner in East Millinocket had a dirt basement which was in dire need of waterproofing. The homeowner wanted to be able to utilize the space, but currently couldn’t with the dirt space. To have the space upgraded to fit their needs, the homeowner called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
Once we arrived, we began immediately by pouring a fresh concrete slab on the existing dirt floor. While pouring this new floor for this basement, we installed a WaterGuard piping system inside. After the floor hardens, the WaterGuard will be concealed inside. These pipes run around the perimeter of the floor, and will capture water as it tries to enter through the concrete. This water will then be guided through the WaterGuard to the sump for removal.
Within the sump, we installed a SuperSump sump pump. This pump can remove up to 2,650 gallons of water per hour. This should be plenty of power to keep this basement free of any and all water. The water exiting through the sump follows a PVC discharge line outside. With the floor-based water dealt with, we installed a SaniDry CX dehumidifier. This dehumidifier will take the moist air from its surroundings, and pull the moisture out. This moisture will be passed to the sump for removal while the dried air is circulated back into the basement.
Outside the home, we made a few adjustments to the PVC discharge line. The first of these was the additions of an IceGuard pipe segment added just outside the home. This piece of pipe has holes built into it which do not affect normal water flow. These holes will, however, allow any water trapped within the line to exit before reaching the SuperSump and causing an overflow. Finally, on the end of the line, we attached a LawnScape discharge point. This is where the water exits onto the ground, far enough from the home to drain away without bothering the homeowner ever again.
This basement can now bee utilized by the homeowner for whichever purpose they so choose. No more water will be leaking into this basement for many years to come thanks to the WaterGuard piping.
