FlexiSpan Keeps South Portland, ME Basement Sealed
Challenge
A couple in South Portland were having trouble with a few cracks that had formed in the walls of their basement. These cracks were allowing water to flow in, and this was an immediate problem for the homeowners. To have the cracks fixed, the homeowners called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
After our crew arrived, they began work on the first crack right away. They began with the easier of the two cracks, by brushing it free of debris with a coarse brush. The crack then received an initial layer of sealant over the top of the crack. We applied a foam mat over the top of the sealant. This was a crucial step in the installation of FlexiSpan. FlexiSpan is a sealing process which is flexible, to stay aligned with a shifting crack, while still keeping water out. Finally, we applied the final layer of sealant over the crack and the FlexiSpan was complete.
With one crack done, we moved on to the second crack. To seal this one, which ran under several support beams, we wouldn’t be able to use FlexiSpan, because the foam would not be able to fit. We started this repair the same, by removing debris with a brush. Next, we laid a layer of sealant over the top of the crack, but this time, we placed plastic plugs every few inches up the crack as we laid the sealant. After this layer dried, we removed the ends of the plugs, and created tubes leading inside the crack. We then injected Polyurethane into these tubes, sealing the ends back up after each one was done. This Polyurethane fills the crack completely, and hardens in place, sealing out moisture.
With the two cracks sealed, water would no longer be a problem for this South Portland, ME couple.
