Leaking China Village, ME Basement Sealed With WaterGuard
Challenge
A couple in China Village, ME had been living with a leaky basement for quite some time. After relying on manual pumping for so long, they were tired of the leaks. To have the sealed, and to keep the basement dry, they called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
Once our crew arrived and investigated the space, they knew what steps to take to keep this basement dry. The first installation required a trench to be dug around the perimeter of the basement floor. This shallow trench runs around the concrete floor, along the walls. Because the foundation was allowing some water to enter the space, we laid our WaterGuard piping down within this trench. The piping is then buried beneath a fresh layer of cement to conceal it. Within the floor, these pipes will take in the moisture that was previously collecting on the surface above. This water is then guided out of the home through a discharge line.
Now to move onto the crack, our installation crew used a coarse brush to scrub away any debris or dirt collecting around and inside the crack. This gave them a clear surface to apply the sealant to. The first layer of sealant laid over the top of the crack was laid with plugs placed every few inches. Once this layer dried, the ends of the plugs were taken off, creating tubes leading to the inside of the crack through the sealant. We then used a Polyurethane Injection to fill the crack through the tubes. The Polyurethane spreads inside the crack, filling even the smallest nooks and fissures. After each injection, the end of the plug is then reinserted, locking the injection inside. The Polyurethane then hardens in place, completely sealing this crack, preventing any further moisture from passing through.
With the WaterGuard in place and the Polyurethane injected, this basement should remain dry for many years to come! These homeowners can now use the space for their needs without needing to worry about water damage.
