Dirt Grand Lake Stream, ME Basement Slabbed & Waterproofed
Challenge
A homeowner in Grand Lake Stream, ME had been struggling with a wet basement for years. The dirt floor in the basement was an easy access point for any moisture in the soil, and the homeowner just couldn’t keep the water out on their own. To finally have the problem dealt with, they called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
Once our crew arrived at the home, they began the installation of the new floor immediately. To give the space a proper floor, as well as complete waterproofing, we installed WaterGuard piping while pouring the new concrete slab. The WaterGuard pipes run around the edge of the new floor, just beneath the surface. Once the floor dries, the WaterGuard is solidified into place. Within the floor, the WaterGuard will capture any and all water trying to slip in through the concrete. This trapped water is then guided to the sump for removal.
To take on the water removal, we installed a SuperSump sump pump. This pump is capable of moving up to 2,650 gallons of water per hour. This water is forced up and out of the home through a PVC discharge line. This sump will handle all of the water collected by the WaterGuard. With the floor based water under control, we installed a SaniDry CX dehumidifier to deal with the airborne water. This moisture could still pose a threat to the homeowner. The SaniDry takes in the surrounding air, and removes the moisture, passing the water on to the SuperSump for removal. After removing the moisture, the dried air is distributed back into the basement.
The water exiting the home through the PVC discharge line passes through two key pieces of piping on its way out. These are located outside the home, the first just as the line leaves the basement. The IceGuard pipe section has built-in holes which will not affect normal water flow. These holes will, however, enable the escape of trapped water. This will prevent an overflow in the sump by giving any water blocked by ice or other debris a way out of the line. Finally, the water exits the end of the line through a LawnScape discharge point. The water will drain away into the ground here without causing any further problems for the homeowner.
This new basement system should not only keep this homeowners’ basement dry, but it enables them to utilize the basement for storage or any other purpose they might need the space for. Thanks to the WaterGuard piping, they will never need to worry about water damage to their belongings.
