Polyurethane Injection Saves East Blue Hill, ME From Flooding
Challenge
A homeowner in East Blue Hill, ME was having trouble with their basement. Water had been leaking in through a crack in one of the walls. Unable to stop the inflow of water on their own, they called the professionals, TC Hafford basement Systems.
Solution
Once our crew arrived, their first task was to locate the crack and decide the best remedy for the problem. For this crack, because it ran along a part of the wall covered with a few supports, we needed to use a Polyurethane injection. To begin this process, we scraped the crack clean of any debris using a coarse brush. We then laid a preliminary layer of sealant over the crack, placing plugs every few inches along the way. These plugs will eventually be used for the injection process, but for now, they are just being sealed into place. We waited for this layer to dry, and then were able to move onto the next step.
To keep water from entering through this crack in the future, we opened the ends of the plugs, and began to fill the crack slowly with Polyurethane. We injected this into each plug until the crack was full. The Polyurethane will completely fill the crack, eventually solidifying in place. This now sealed layer of sealant is impassable to moisture, and will keep this basement floor free of water, even in the heaviest rains. With the Polyurethane dries, we removed the plugs, and the job was done.
With the injection in place, this homeowner no longer needs to worry about their basement taking on water. Their newly sealed crack will remain leak-free for many years to come!
