Dirt Basement in Vassalboro, ME Receives Much Needed Waterproofing
Challenge
A couple in Vassalboro, ME owned a dirt basement. This basement was causing these homeowners a good deal of trouble. Rainwater would always freely enter the space from the surrounding soil. For storage purposes, they needed the space waterproofed. To get the job done properly, they called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
Once we arrived at the home, our first task was to give the space a solid floor. We installed a concrete slab on top of the dirt to do just this. This slab, however, was lined with WaterGuard piping. These pipes, running around the outside perimeter of the slab, sit just beneath the surface. This location allows the piping to capture any and all moisture trying to enter the basement through the newly installed slab. This trapped water is then guided through the WaterGuard piping to the sump for removal.
Taking care of the water removal, we installed a SuperSump sump pump. A machine capable of moving over 2,600 gallons of water per hour, the SuperSump will be able to keep up with the most intense storms. The water exits the home through a PVC discharge line, which we followed outside to make some final additions to. The first of these additions was the IceGuard pipe segment. This section of pipe sits just outside the home, and has homes built into it. The holes will not change the flow of the water exiting through the line. The holes will, however, prevent an overflow in the sump by allowing any blocked water to escape. This would only happen if ice or other debris clogged the line. Finally, the water exits through a LawnScape discharge point. The water will drain away into the ground here, a safe distance from the home.
With their newly waterproofed basement, these homeowners can now utilize their basement to its fullest potential without fearing water damage. Thanks to their new WaterGuard piping system, no more rainwater will be gathering on their basement floor.
