WaterGuard Keeps Long Island, ME Basement Water-Free
Challenge
A homeowner in Long Island, ME had been having trouble with water gathering in their basement. This standing water had no way out and the homeowner was tired of manual pumping. To put an end to their worries, the homeowner called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
Once our crew arrived, the first order of business was to identify the source of the water. The moisture in the surrounding soil was able to leak in directly through the foundation. To stop this, we buried WaterGuard piping beneath a fresh layer of cement within a trench around the inside perimeter of the basement floor. This appears no different from the surface, but from within, the WaterGuard is protecting this basement from water. Any moisture traveling through the foundation will now collect within the WaterGuard, never reaching the surface. This trapped water is then guided to a sump for removal.
To handle the removal of the water, we installed a SuperSump sump pump in the floor of this basement, which the WaterGuard connects to. The SuperSump has enough power to keep up with the concentration of water flowing in, with a pumping force of over 2,600 gallons per hour. This water is forced up and out of the home through a PVC discharge line. We then attached an UltraSump backup battery to the SuperSump. This battery will keep the SuperSump pumping without power in the home for up to 11,000 gallons before requiring another charge. This will ensure the basement will remain water-free even in the harshest weather conditions.
To finish the job in this basement, we moved outside to make some final additions to the discharge line. The first was an IceGuard pipe section added just outside the home. This prevents an overflow in the sump with built-in holes. These holes will not affect normal water flow, but will allow any blocked water to escape. We then ended the line with a LawnScape discharge point. This is where the water exits onto the ground, a safe distance from the home where it will never again bother this homeowner.
With their new basement system in place, the days of this homeowner pumping out water manually are over! The WaterGuard piping will keep the surface of this basement floor perfectly dry for many years to come.
