FlexiSpan Seals Water Out of Belgrade Lakes, ME Basement
Challenge
A couple in Belgrade Lakes, ME had been having trouble with a few cracks in their basement walls. These cracks had been letting water in, and needed to be plugged. To achieve this, they called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
There were three cracks that needed to be addressed, two of which would be an easy fix. We began work on these by scraping all of the cracks with a rough brush to clear them of any debris. We then laid a layer of sealant into the two cracks. This began the installation of FlexiSpan, a flexible sealant which will lock moisture out. We then added the second layer, a foam mat over the top of the sealant. This mat gives the FlexiSpan its flexible nature. The final step was adding a second layer of sealant over the top of the matting. This holds the structure in place against the wall, while sealing out moisture and maintaining flexibility.
Finally, we needed to seal a crack running underneath a wooden support beam against the wall. To do this, we applied a preliminary layer of sealant over the crack, placing plastic plugs every few inches as we laid the sealant. Once dried in place, we then opened these plugs and used the small tubes to inject Polyurethane. This spreads to fill the interior of the crack, drying to form a perfect seal to the crack inside. The plugs were then removed and we were done.
Now this couple can utilize their basement without worrying about the water that had been easily leaking in through the cracks. These seals should keep water out of this basement for many years to come!
