SmartSump Maintains Dry Basement Floor For Spruce Head, ME Home

Challenge

A homeowner in Spruce Head, ME owned a basement which would take on water during any rainfall. This was a problem for this homeowner, because they were worried the water might damage their property. To have the water flushed out and kept out, they called TC Hafford Basement Systems to get the job done.

Solution

Once our crew arrived at the home, they began on the installation of the waterproofing system. The first product to be installed was the SmartSump sump pump. The new sump was placed at the lowest point of the basement floor, so that the water would naturally flow to it for removal. The SmartSump will force the water up and out of the home through a PVC discharge line. To keep this pump operating under the harshest conditions, we attached an UltraSump backup battery. The UltraSump will give the SmartSump an extra 11,000-gallon lifespan worth of pumping before requiring a charge. This will surely keep this basement water-free even in the heaviest storms.

Following the discharge line outside, we made two key additions to help keep the system operating without a hitch. The first was an IceGuard pipe segment. This piece was installed just outside the home and has holes built into the sides of it. These holes will not affect normal water flow; however, they will release trapped water. In the event of a blockage in the pipe, whether it be cause by ice or other debris, these holes will let the water escape without overflowing the sump pump. Finally, we added a LawnScape discharge point to the end of the line. The water exits here onto the ground a safe distance from the home. This water will not be able to find its way back to the basement to cause more trouble.

Now this homeowner can rest assured their basement will remain dry even during a heavy storm. Thanks to their new basement system, a flooding basement is a thing of the past!
