Peaks Island, ME Basement Kept Dry With SaniDry XP
Challenge
A homeowner in Peaks Island, ME had been noticing a musty smell coming from their basement. This was due to an excess of moisture in the air within the space. To have this problem addressed, the homeowner called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
The moisture coming into this basement was gathering in the air, and creating an extremely moist atmosphere. This damp air could lead to mold growth, which would cause the bad smell as well as potential health problems for the homeowner. To prevent this, we installed a SaniDry XP dehumidifier within this basement. The SaniDry takes in the damp air, and pulls out the moisture. The water is then deposited in the sump for removal. The dried air is then circulated back into the space where it causes more moist air to cycle back toward the SaniDry. This process continues until the entire basement is full of dry, healthy air. With the SaniDry XP in place, the musty smell should be gone in no time!
The water deposited into the sump ends up in the SuperSump sump pump we installed. This pump can move up to 2,650 gallons of water per hour, which should be plenty of power to keep the basement water-free. The water exits the sump through a PVC discharge line. The SuperSump then received an UltraSump attachment. This attachment is a backup battery which will keep the sump operating even when the home is without power. The UltraSump gives the SuperSump a lifespan of 11,000 gallons before it requires a charge. Now the basement will remain dry even in the worst weather!
Outside the home, following the discharge line, we had two key additions to make. On the end of the line, we installed a LawnScape discharge point. This is where the water is deposited onto the ground, a safe distance from the home. This water will drain away without further affecting the home. We also added an IceGuard pipe segment to the line just outside the home. This piece has special built in holes which will not affect normal water flow. These holes will, however, allow any trapped water to escape. This prevents an overflow in the sump if the line were to become clogged by ice or other debris.
Now that this homeowner has a basement system in place, their moisture problem will be a thing of the past. They will need to deal with an unpleasant smell no more!
