WaterGuard Maintains Dry West Baldwin, ME Basement
Challenge
A couple in West Baldwin, ME had been experiencing difficulties keeping their basement floor dry. Lately, water would gather across the surface of the floor, and the couple couldn’t figure out where it was coming from. To solve this problem, they called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
The first thing we needed to do before we could waterproof the space was to find out where the water was entering through. This turned out to be the foundation itself, whenever there was enough water in the surrounding soil to force moisture in. To stop this leakage, we began by digging a shallow trench around the perimeter of the floor. This trench was where we then buried 94 feet of our WaterGuard piping. These pipes, buried beneath a layer of fresh cement, will now capture the water traveling in from outside. This trapped water is then guided through the WaterGuard to the sump for removal.
The WaterGuard pipes create an increase in concentration of water gathering in the sump at any given time. To keep up with this increase, we installed a SuperSump sump pump. This pump will be able to handle anything the WaterGuard throws at it, with a pumping rate of over 2,600 gallons per hour. The water exits the home through a PVC discharge line. Now that the water on the floor has been dealt with, there was still a lingering smell in the air due to moisture in the atmosphere of the space. To eliminate this, we installed a SaniDry XP dehumidifier, which attaches to the SuperSump. The SaniDry takes in the moist air, removing any moisture and passing that water to the SuperSump for removal. The dried air is then circulated back into the basement.
With a dry and healthy basement, this couple no longer have and moisture problems. Thanks to the WaterGuard, this basement should stay dry for years to come!
