Dirt Basement In North Monmouth, ME Waterproofed The Right Way
Challenge
A homeowner in North Monmouth owned a dirt basement, but had no way to make use of the space. Because water would gather on the floor after any rainfall, this basement was not a viable storage space. Looking to utilize the space, this homeowner called TC Hafford Basement Systems to have the basement transformed into a usable storage space.
Solution
To begin, we needed to re-grade the dirt floor. This leveled the surface and allowed us to remove any excess debris. We then laid a concrete slab on the dirt to give the basement a proper floor. This slab, however, was no ordinary slab. It had a WaterGuard piping system installed. These pipes ensure no moisture will appear on the surface of the concrete. Any water trying to leak in through the slab will be trapped within the WaterGuard and transported to the sump for removal.
Handling the water removal, we installed a SuperSump sump pump. This pump can move up to 2,650 gallons of water per hour. The water follows a PVC discharge line outside, where it is carried a safe distance from the home. Once far enough away, the water is released into the ground through a LawnScape discharge point. On the way to the end of the line the water passes through an IceGuard pipe segment. This special pipe piece has built in holes which allow for any trapped water to escape. The normal water flow will remain unaffected by the holes, while no water will be able to backup and overflow the sump.
This homeowner can now utilize this space to its fullest potential. A flooding basement is no longer a worry for this North Monmouth, ME homeowner.
