WaterGuard & TripleSafe Protect Owls Head, ME Basement
Challenge
A homeowner in Owls Head, ME had been fearing water damage for a while. Finding standing water in their basement after a rain fall was a regular occurrence. To finally put their fear to rest and get the space waterproofed, they called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
Once our crew arrived at the home, the first priority was to locate the source of the leak. The water had been coming in through the concrete foundation due to hydrostatic pressure. To help this homeowner keep a dry basement floor, we began this project by digging a shallow trench around the perimeter of the basement floor. This is where we laid 104 feet of WaterGuard piping. This piping was then buried beneath a fresh layer of cement. Once inside the floor, the WaterGuard captures moisture traveling through, preventing it from reaching the surface. This collected water is then guided to the sump for removal.
With the WaterGuard in place, the concentration of water entering the sump was going to be higher than usual. To compensate for this, and to keep the basement dry in any weather, we installed a TripleSafe sump pump. This device contains three pumps, each activating at different times to keep the space dry. The first pump is the primary, and handles the bulk of the water. The secondary pump backs up the primary, and will turn on if the primary fails for any reason. The tertiary pump is a battery-operated backup pump. This keeps the basement free of water even if the home loses power. The water is evacuated through a PVC discharge line.
With their new basement system in place, this homeowner will no longer be finding standing water on their basement floor. They don’t need to fear water damage anymore!
