WaterGuard Keeps Flooding South Thomaston, ME Basement Dry
Challenge
A homeowner in South Thomaston, ME had been having trouble with their basement. After a rainfall, water would gather on the floor. This flooding was a serious problem for the homeowner. To get a handle on the situation before it got worse, the homeowner called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
In order to protect this basement from the water, we first needed to identify where the water was leaking in through. This turned out to be the foundation itself. If enough pressure builds up in the surrounding soil, moisture will be forced in through the concrete. To stop this, we buried our WaterGuard piping around the perimeter of the floor, just beneath the surface. These pipes will capture moisture within the foundation, before it can reach the surface. The trapped water is then guided through the WaterGuard to the sump for removal.
The sump in this basement was helping with the water removal, but might not be able to keep up with the increased concentration of water coming from the WaterGuard. Handling this new increase in water, is the SuperSump sump pump we installed. This pump can move over 2,600 gallons of water per hour. This much power is sure to keep this basement water-free. The water is forced up and out of the home through a PVC discharge line. Keeping the SuperSump operating in any weather, we attached an UltraSump backup battery. This gives the SuperSump an extra 11,000 gallons worth of pumping before requiring a charge. Now even during a power outage, this basement will remain water-free.
With their new basement system in place, this homeowner no longer needs to worry about flooding. Thanks to the WaterGuard piping, this basement can now be used however this homeowner pleases.
