North Yarmouth, ME Basement Saved From Water Damage With WaterGuard
Challenge
A homeowner in North Yarmouth, ME was finding it to be impossible to stop moisture from entering his basement. Even with a sump, water would still pool up. Tired of dealing with these conditions, this homeowner called TC Hafford Basement Systems to get the basement properly waterproofed.
Solution
To begin, our crew first needed to locate the entry point of the moisture. This being the foundation itself, it was no surprise the homeowner couldn’t stop the moisture. When the water pressure in the surrounding soil becomes high enough during a rain storm, the moisture can be forced in through tiny holes and cracks in the concrete. To stop this, we installed our WaterGuard piping within a trench we dug around the perimeter of the basement floor. These pipes are then buried beneath a fresh layer of cement. Once inside the floor, the WaterGuard will take in the moisture as it travels through the foundation, preventing it from ever reaching the surface. The trapped water is transported to the sump for removal.
There was a door leading from the outside to the interior of the basement. Because water could easily flow in through the base of the door, we installed a TrenchDrain along with the WaterGuard. The TrenchDrain sits level with the concrete beneath the door, and has an open-faced grate on its top side. This allows any flowing water to fall down into the WaterGuard piping. All of this collected water is then deposited into the SuperSump sump pump we installed in the basement. The SuperSump forces the water up and out of the basement through a PVC discharge line. The line carries the water a safe distance from the home where it releases it back onto the ground.
With these new installations in their basement, this homeowner won’t need to fear water damage in the future. The WaterGuard piping will make sure of that!
