Bar Harbor, ME Basement Protected From Water With WaterGuard
Challenge
Having been putting up with a wet basement for some time, Don from Bar Harbor needed a way to waterproof the space. The water was rendering the basement unusable. To finally have the space waterproofed, he called TC Hafford Basement Systems to get the job done.
Solution
This basement had been suffering from a water leak coming directly through the concrete foundation itself. To stop this on his own would be no easy task for Don. TC Hafford, however, has just the fix for this kind of leak. We began by digging a trench around the perimeter of the concrete floor. This is where we laid 128 feet of WaterGuard piping. Covered with a fresh layer of cement, the WaterGuard piping functions within the foundation. The moisture traveling in towards the interior of the basement will be trapped within the piping, where instead of causing problems, it will be guided to the sump where it will be removed.
Once in the sump, the water enters the SuperSump sump pump we installed in the basement floor. This pump can handle up to 2,650 gallons of water per hour, which is forced up and out of the home through a PVC discharge line. The line, carrying the water away from the home, received two key attachments outside the home. The first was the IceGuard pipe segment which sits just outside the home. This piece has built-in holes. These holes will only allow water to escape through them if it is flowing back towards the sump. This would occur if the line became blocked by ice or other debris. The IceGuard will ensure the sump never overflows in the event of a blockage. Finally, the line was finished with a LawnScape discharge point where the water exits onto the ground a safe distance from the home.
With his new system in place, Don will never need to worry about his basement taking on water again. His new basement system will handle all of the water removal without Don needing to lift a finger.
