New Gloucester, ME Basement Kept Dry With WaterGuard
Challenge
This New Gloucester, ME homeowner was having water troubles in their basement. They were unable to keep the water out on their own, and wanted the problem dealt with. To get the job done right, they called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
Once we arrived, we first needed to identify the main source of leakage. This turned out to be two locations, the foundation itself, and underneath a door leading outside. To stop the water from leaking in in the future, we installed WaterGuard piping inside the floor, just beneath the surface. These pipes are buried under a fresh layer of cement, where they capture any moisture traveling through the foundation, stopping it from reaching the surface. Beneath the door, we installed a TrenchDrain, which was attached to the WaterGuard. The TrenchDrain sits level with the floor surface, and has an open-faced grate which allows water traveling in under the door to fall down into the WaterGuard before it can affect the interior of the basement. The water is then guided through the WaterGuard pipes to the sump where it is removed from the home.
Within the sump, we installed a SuperSump sump pump to handle the increased load of water coming from the WaterGuard. The SuperSump will be more than strong enough to keep the water flowing from the home, capable of moving up to 2,650 gallons of water per hour. The water is evacuated through a PVC discharge line, which carries the water a safe distance from the home. The water exits through a LawnScape discharge point on the end of the line. To help keep this process running smoothly, we attached an IceGuard onto the line close to where the piping exits the home. The IceGuard has holes built into it, which will not affect normal water flow. These holes, however, will allow any trapped water to escape before it can reach the sump to overflow. This keeps the basement safe from clogs due to ice or other debris.
Now that this homeowner has a WaterGuard in place, with a brand-new sump pump, their basement should stay dry for years to come! Water problems are a thing of the past for this basement.
