Chamberlain, ME Basement Kept Dry With SmartSump
Challenge
A homeowner in Chamberlain, ME had been having trouble with small pools of water gathering in the low point of their basement floor. This could lead to problems in the future, so they immediately called TC Hafford Basement Systems to prevent the problems before they happened.
Solution
The water had been gathering in the natural low point of the basement floor. This is why we dug out a sump in this location, the sump would take in any moisture flowing to the space. To remove the water once it entered the sump, we installed a SmartSump sump pump. This device will take the water and force it up and out of the home through a PVC discharge line. Water gathering on the floor was not this homeowners’ only problem. Moisture in the air could also lead to future issues. To deal with this airborne water, we installed a SaniDry CX dehumidifier. This will take in the air from around the basement, removing the moisture and passing it to the sump for removal. The dry air is then let back out into the space to allow more air to flow into the SaniDry.
The discharge line exiting the home also required some attention outside the home to help keep things running smoothly. The first addition was an IceGuard pipe section added just outside the home. This piece of piping has built-in holes, which do not affect normal water flow. However, these holes will allow any water that becomes blocked by ice or other debris to escape before backing up to the sump and causing an overflow. The water then exits through a LawnScape discharge point at the end of the line. The water exiting here is let out onto the ground far enough from the home to not be able to flow back in and cause any more problems.
With a new sump in place and additions to the discharge line, this homeowner should no longer find any standing water in their basement. From now on, any water will be carried away through the discharge line.
