Hanover, ME Basement Sealed Using FlexiSpan & Polyurethane
Challenge
A couple in Hanover, ME had noticed a couple of cracks running along the walls of their basement. These cracks had been letting water flow in from the surrounding soil, which was pooling up on the floor. This needed to be stopped as soon as possible, so this couple called the professionals, TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
Once our crew arrived at the home, they began work on the cracks. One of the cracks was running underneath a few supports along the wall, which would make our typical crack repair difficult. This called for a Polyurethane Injection. This process started with a preliminary coat of sealant over the top of the crack. This sealant had plugs placed incrementally along the crack. Once the sealant dried, we opened the ends of the plugs, and sprayed Polyurethane in through them to the interior of the crack. The Polyurethane will spread until the crack is filled, then it will harden in place. This completely locks moisture out, preventing it from passing through to the interior in the future.
Next, one the remaining crack, we began applying FlexiSpan. FlexiSpan is a three-layer seal that can stretch and conform with/to the crack if the walls shift at all. The first step is to fill the crack with a layer of sealant. This sealant is the covered with a foam mat that covers the edges of the crack. The foam mat is the covered over with a second layer of sealant. This holds the entire structure to the wall, holding out water while the foam gives it its flexibility. With FlexiSpan covering this crack, not only will water no longer be able to reach the interior, but any future mutations to the crack will remain sealed.
With the cracks sealed, no more moisture will leak into this basement. These homeowners no longer need to worry about water related problems appearing in their basement!
