New Basement System For Sebec, ME Couple Maintains A Dry Basement

Challenge

A couple in Sebec, ME was experiencing difficulty in keeping their basement free of water. Manual pumping just wasn’t cutting it anymore. Seeking a permanent solution, they called TC Hafford Basement Systems.

Solution

Upon arriving at the home, we started this project by identifying the source of the moisture. This turned out to be the foundation itself. The water pressure in the surrounding soil would force moisture in through the concrete. To stop this, we installed WaterGuard piping inside the foundation, just beneath the surface of the floor. These pipes, buried under a fresh layer of cement, will capture the moisture as it travels through the foundation. This prevents any build-up on the surface. The trapped water is then guided to the sump for removal.

To handle the removal of the water, we installed a TripleSafe sump pump in the basement floor. The WaterGuard deposits the captured water here to be forced up and out of the home through a PVC discharge line. The TripleSafe has three pumps within it, the first pump will remove the bulk of the water. If this pump malfunctions for any reason, or cannot keep up with the water, the secondary pump will activate and handle the water removal. Finally, the third pump is a battery-operated backup pump. This will only function if and when the home loses power. The TripleSafe will maintain a dry basement floor, even in the most intense storms.

Following the discharge line outside, we had two more products to install to complete this project. The first was an IceGuard pipe section attached just outside the home. This prevents an overflow in the sump by allowing trapped water to escape the line through built-in holes. These holes will not affect normal water flow. On the end of the line, we attached a LawnScape discharge point. The water exits the line here, a safe distance from the home where it will never bother these homeowners again.

With their new basement system in place, this Sebec, ME couple now no longer need to deal with manual pumping. All of their basement moisture problems will be taken care of automatically with the WaterGuard & TripleSafe combination.
