WaterGuard & TripleSafe Protect Eustis, ME Basement From Water Damage
Challenge
A homeowner in Eustis, ME had been living with a wet basement for far too long. They couldn’t quite keep the space dry on their own. Tired of the puddles and musty smell, they called TC Hafford Basement Systems to have the space waterproofed properly.
Solution
Upon arriving at the home, our first objective was to identify where the water was entering. It was no surprise that the homeowner was having trouble keeping water out, because the moisture had been leaking in directly through the foundation itself. Luckily for this homeowner, TC Hafford has just the fix! We installed WaterGuard piping around the inside perimeter of the basement floor. These pipes are buried just beneath the surface under a fresh layer of cement. Once inside, the pipes capture moisture as it travels from the surrounding soil towards the interior of the basement. This trapped water is then guided to the sump to be removed from the home.
To help keep the water removal running through even the roughest storms, we installed a TripleSafe sump pump in the basement. This device contains three pumps, each operating at different times to keep the process running smoothly. The first and second pumps both pump out the bulk of the water, with the secondary pump only activating when the primary fails for any reason. The third pump is a battery-operated pump which kicks on in the event of a power outage. This should keep the home water-free during even the most intense weather.
The water being removed by the TripleSafe exits the home through a PVC discharge line. Following this line outside, we made some finishing additions before this basement was fully waterproofed. The first was an IceGuard pipe segment. This piece sits just as the line exits the home, and has holes built into it. The holes, however, do not affect normal water flow. They will only come into play if and when the discharge line becomes blocked by ice or other debris. When this occurs, the water is allowed to escape the line through the holes before it reaches the sump and overflows onto the basement floor. We then ended the line with a LawnScape discharge point. The water exits here, a safe distance from the home where it will never again bother this homeowner.
With their new system in place, this homeowner will now be able to comfortably use their basement without a bad smell or standing water. The WaterGuard piping & TripleSafe sump pump will keep their home water-free for years to come!
