Lagrange, ME Basement Given Complete Waterproofing
Challenge
A homeowner in Lagrange, ME had a dirt basement which they would regularly find standing water in. Needing the space for storage, the homeowner sought ways to keep the water out. After a bit of research, they called TC Hafford Basement Systems, knowing we were the right company for the job!
Solution
Once our crew arrived at the home, they began installing the new floor for the basement. This was a concrete slab which sat over the top of the existing dirt floor. This slab, however, is not perfectly waterproof, so it was lined with a WaterGuard piping system. These pipes sit just beneath the surface of the concrete, and runs the perimeter of the slab, along the walls. Now when it rains, and water tries to travel in through the dirt, and then the concrete, it will be captured by the WaterGuard piping and guided to the sump for removal. Without these pipes in place, this basement would still gather water on the floor, causing more problems for the homeowner.
Within the new sump, we installed a TripleSafe sump pump. This device will take in the water from the WaterGuard and force it up and out of the home through one of its three pumps. The first pump handles the bulk of the water. The second pump will take over if the primary pump cannot handle the entire load for whatever reason. The third and final pump is a battery-operated backup pump that will kick on if the home loses power. This device keeps the basement water-free even in the heaviest storms! The water is carried away from the home through a PVC discharge line.
Now that the water on the floor had been dealt with, our crew installed a SaniDry Sedona to deal with airborne moisture. The SaniDry takes in the moist air from around where it is installed, and pulls the moisture out of the captured air. This water is passed on to the TripleSafe for removal. The dried air is then shot out back into the basement where it forces more moist air back towards the SaniDry. This cycle continues until the basement is completely moisture free. Outside the home, we attached an IceGuard pipe segment to the discharge line. This piece has built in holes which will not affect normal water flow, but will allow any trapped water a way out of the line should a blockage occur. Finally, the water exits, a safe distance from the home, through a LawnScape discharge point.
With a proper floor and a basement system in place, this homeowner can now utilize their basement to its fullest potential without the need to fear water damage! Water will never again see the surface of this Lagrange, ME basement.
