Alna, ME Basement Receives Much Needed Waterproofing
Challenge
With a dirt basement floor, it was no surprise this Alna, ME homeowner suffered from a wet basement. Tired of living in these conditions, the homeowner contacted TC Hafford Basement Systems to finally get the space waterproofed.
Solution
To eliminate the water problems in this basement, we would need to install both a way to remove the water, and a way to stop the water from reaching the interior of the space. With water leaking in through the dirt and in under a door, we had a couple of different water sources to deal with. To start, we gave the space a solid flooring. We installed a concrete slab on the dirt floor to help keep out water. We then installed a SuperSump sump pump in the new slab to take care of the water removal. The SuperSump can handle up to over 2,600 gallons of water per hour, forcing it out of the home through a PVC discharge line.
With a new slab in place, the water would have a harder time reaching the interior, but it will still be able to leak through the concrete. To stop this, we installed a WaterGuard piping system under the surface of the floor, encircling the basement. These pipes are then given a TrenchDrain attachment where they pass under the door. The WaterGuard pipes capture any moisture traveling through the concrete, guiding it to the sump for removal. The TrenchDrain assists this by having an open-faced grate level with the floor surface. This allows water passing under the door to drop down into the WaterGuard.
With their new floor and a water removal system in place, this homeowner would no longer need to suffer from the affects of moisture on their basement. With the WaterGuard protecting them, water wouldn’t stand a chance!
