WaterGuard Piping Stops Freedom, NH Basement Leakage
Challenge
A homeowner in Freedom, NH was having trouble with water leaking into their basement. The water had been leaking in through both the foundation and underneath a door leading outside from the basement. To have all their leaks finally sealed, they called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
Because the bulk of the moisture was leaking in through the foundation itself, it was no surprise this homeowner was having trouble keeping the water out. This kind of leakage is very difficult to deal with, but TC Hafford Basement Systems has just the fix! We dug out a trench in the floor, running around the perimeter, and buried WaterGuard piping in this trench. The WaterGuard pipes are buried under a fresh layer of cement, capturing the moisture within the foundation, preventing it from reaching the surface and causing problems. Underneath the door, however, we installed a TrenchDrain segment of piping connected to the WaterGuard. This rests level with the floor surface, and has an open face to allow any water flowing under the door to fall down into the WaterGuard where it is guided to the sump for removal.
While this basement did already have a sump, the now increased flow of water coming from the WaterGuard could potentially be too much for this sump to handle. To assist in the water removal, we installed a SuperSump sump pump. This device has enough power to keep the water flowing up and out of the home through the PVC discharge line, even in the heaviest storms. The SuperSump can move up to 2,650 gallons of water per hour. Finally, outside the home, we made an addition to the discharge line to help keep things running smoothly. We attached an IceGuard pipe segment just as the line left the home, which is a unique pipe piece with holes built in. These holes will not affect normal water flow, but allow and blocked water to escape. This prevents an overflow in the sump if ice or other debris block the line.
Now that their leaks have been stopped, and the water has a place to exit the basement through, this basement will no longer experience water related problems. This homeowner can now use the space freely without fear of water damage.
