WaterGuard Dries & Protects Morrill, ME Basement

Challenge

A homeowner in Morrill, ME had been having difficulties keeping their basement dry. Unable to keep up with the moisture themselves, they called in the professionals, TC Hafford Basement Systems.

Solution

Once our crew arrived at the home, they first needed to assess the situation. After identifying the cause of the leakage, we were able to begin working on the basement. The moisture would leak in through the foundation itself, and to stop it we installed WaterGuard piping in the floor surrounding the basement. The WaterGuard pipes capture any moisture traveling through the foundation, preventing it from ever reaching the surface. This moisture is then guided to the sump for removal. To help capture moisture, we installed BrightWall tiles across the basement walls to collect any moisture entering through the walls. The collected moisture then drops down into the WaterGuard.

To handle the removal of the water, we installed a TripleSafe sump pump in the basement. This device contains three pumps. The first pump handles the bulk of the water, forcing it up and out of the home through a PVC discharge line. The second pump is in place for if and when the primary pump fails or cannot handle the amount of water. The third and final pump is a battery-operated backup pump. This pump kicks on when the home loses power, keeping the basement water-free even during the heaviest storms.

Following the discharge line outside, there were two key attachments we needed to add. The first was an IceGuard pipe section. The IceGuard is built with holes in it that do not affect normal water flow. In the event that the line becomes blocked, these holes allow the trapped water to escape without backing up and overflowing the TripleSafe. We then finished the line with a LawnScape discharge point. The water exits onto the ground here, a safe distance from the home.

With a new basement system in place, this homeowner no longer needs to worry about moisture problems. They can no use their basement however they please.
