Brooksville, ME Basement Waterproofed With WaterGuard
Challenge
Living with a wet basement was not something this Brooksville, ME homeowner wanted. Tired of the condition of their basement, they called TC Hafford Basement Systems to finally have something done about it.
Solution
Upon arriving at the home, we needed to determine the main entry point of the water causing the problems in this basement. Finding this point to be the foundation itself, we knew exactly what we needed to do to stop the water from continuing to dampen the space. We dug out a trench around the inside perimeter of the basement floor. This trench is where we then installed WaterGuard piping. These pipes are buried under a fresh layer of cement. The WaterGuard captures moisture as it travels through the concrete foundation, stopping it from reaching the surface of the basement floor. This water is then guided by the WaterGuard to the sump for removal.
The water in the WaterGuard is deposited into the SuperSump sump pump we installed within the floor of the basement. The SuperSump takes this water and forces it up and out of the home through a PVC discharge line. Able to move immense amounts of water, the SuperSump will be able to handle any storm thrown at it. On top of this, the SuperSump will be able to power through even the roughest storms with the help of an UltraSump backup battery we attached to it. The UltraSump gives the pump an extra 11,000 gallons worth of electricity before requiring another charge. This pair is sure to keep this basement water-free in any storm.
With the water on the floor taken care of, it was time to remove the moisture from the air. To handle this, we installed a SaniDry XP dehumidifier. This dehumidifier pulls the moisture out of the air, handing it off to the SuperSump to be removed with the rest of the water. We then moved outside to add two key features to the discharge line. The first was the IceGuard. The IceGuard is a uniquely designed section of pipe with holes in it. These holes will not affect typical water flow, but should the line become blocked, the water can escape through the holes. This prevents an overflow in the sump. The line was finished with a LawnScape discharge point. The water exits onto the ground here, a safe distance from the home.
With their new basement system successfully installed, this homeowner will no longer need to put up with a wet basement. Thanks to WaterGuard, the moisture will be kept away from their basement floor!
