Dirt Basement In Perry, ME Given Proper Waterproofing
Challenge
A couple in Perry, ME were the owners of a dirt basement. A dirt basement that would always flood after a rainfall. Water from the surrounding soil would regularly leak in through the floor and pool up. To put an end to this, the couple called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
In order for our crew to waterproof this basement, we would also need to give the basement a proper floor. We laid a concrete slab on the dirt to achieve this, which had WaterGuard piping running along the perimeter. The WaterGuard pipes sit just beneath the surface of this new concrete floor, and capture any moisture that travels through the concrete trying to flood the basement. The trapped water is then guided through the WaterGuard to the sump for removal.
To handle the evacuation of the water, we installed a SuperSump sump pump in the floor of this basement. The SuperSump is able to move over 2,600 gallons of water per hour, which it forces up and out of the home through a PVC discharge line. The discharge line, one the exterior of the home, was then given two additions. The first of these additions was the IceGuard. The IceGuard is a special segment of pipe with holes built into it. It attaches to the line just outside the home, and will allow for any trapped water to escape. This prevents an overflow in the SuperSump if the discharge line becomes clogged. Finally, the water exits the line through a LawnScape discharge point. Where it has been carried far enough from the home to not cause any more problems.
With their new basement system in place, this couple can now enjoy the benefits of a dry basement. No moisture should trouble them again for years to come!
