WaterGuard Dries Kingfield, ME Basement
Challenge
Jane of Kingfield was in need of some basement waterproofing. She had been dealing with the effects of a wet basement for months, and was fed up. She called TC Hafford Basement Systems to get her problem solved the right way.
Solution
To deal with the problem, we first needed to find where the water was entering through. Once we found the water was coming through the foundation, we were able to properly waterproof the space. We began by digging a trench to lay our WaterGuard piping within. The trench was then covered over with a fresh layer of cement. The WaterGuard pipes capture water within the concrete, preventing it from reaching the surface. This trapped water is then guided to the sump for removal.
To handle the water removal, we installed a TripleSafe sump pump. The TripleSafe is composed of three pumps, each activating at different times. The first pump is on the majority of the time, removing the bulk of the water. The second pump is a backup which activates when the primary fails to handle the load of the water. The third pump is a battery-operated backup pump. The third pump will keep the basement water-free if and when the home loses power. The water is pumped out of the home through a PVC discharge line by the TripleSafe.
Now that the water on the floor was dealt with, we needed to remove water from the air. To do this, we installed a SaniDry CX dehumidifier. The SaniDry will remove the moisture from the air, and pass it on the TripleSafe for removal. To assist the TripleSafe in the water removal, we attached an IceGuard onto the discharge line outside the home. The IceGuard has holes built into it which allow water to escape only when trapped. This means that if ice blocks the line, it will exit through the IceGuard before reaching the sump and overflowing. We finished the line with a LawnScape discharge point where the water is released a safe distance from the home.
With her new basement system installed and working properly, Janes basement is now safe from water damage. She can now use her dry basement to its fullest potential.
