WaterGuard Protects Harrington, ME Basement From Water
Challenge
A couple in Harrington, ME were having trouble with their basement. No matter how hard they tried, water would still end up gathering in the space. Not wanting this water to lead to any problems, such as mold growth or water damage, the homeowners called TC Hafford Basement Systems to have all their water-worries solved!
Solution
Once our crew arrived at the home, the first priority was to find where the water was entering the basement through. Having found the source of the problem our crew began work on the waterproofing. Because the water was entering through the foundation itself, due to hydrostatic pressure, we were able to put an end to the leakage fairly easily. To do this we installed WaterGuard piping around the perimeter of the basement. These pipes sit just beneath the surface of the floor, buried underneath a fresh layer of cement. The WaterGuard captures the water as it travels through the foundation, preventing it from reaching the surface to cause any problems.
To remove the captured water from the basement, we installed a SuperSump sump pump. The SuperSump will take in the water from the WaterGuard, and force it up and out of the home through a PVC discharge line. This device has enough power to keep any storm at bay, but if the storm were to knock out the power in the home, the water could potentially flood still. To prevent this from happening, we attached an UltraSump backup battery. The UltraSump will keep the SuperSump pumping even when the home is without power. Recharging once power returns to the home. The UltraSump gives an extra 11,000 gallons worth of pumping to the SuperSump before running out of power.
Outside the home, the discharge line still needed two more attachments to keep things running smoothly. The first was the IceGuard. The IceGuard is a piece of pipe that sits just as the line leaves the home. This section of pipe has holes built in which only allow trapped water to escape. Allowing trapped water out of the sides of the pipe like this prevents an overflow in the sump. The second attachment was the LawnScape discharge point placed on the end of the line. This is where the water exits onto the ground, a safe distance from the home.
These homeowners are now rid of their wet basement troubles. Their new basement system should keep their basement dry for years to come!
