WaterGuard Protects Vinalhaven, ME Basement From Water Damage
Challenge
A basement in Vinalhaven was causing problems for the homeowner. Needing the space for storage, the homeowner was seeking ways to waterproof the area. To get the job done right, they called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
The water entering the space was coming in through the foundation itself, a location that made it impossible for the homeowner to stop. Luckily for owner, TC Hafford has just the fix for this issue. To stop the water in its tracks, we installed WaterGuard piping inside the basement floor. They are buried underneath a fresh layer of cement to conceal them without hindering their function. These special pipes take in the moisture as it moves through the concrete. The captured water is then directed to the sump where it will be removed.
This basement had an existing sump, but it was not successful in removing the moisture properly prior to TC Hafford arriving. To assist the sump in the removal of the collected water, we installed a SuperSump sump pump. This pump will handle the water evacuation from now on, with the ability to pump 2,650 gallons of water per hour. This water is forced up and out through a PVC discharge line where it is carried away from the home. This new pump should easily be able to handle any storm thrown at it.
The water exiting through the PVC line passes through two key pieces which assist with the process of water removal. The first piece is an IceGuard pipe section which is attached just outside the home. The IceGuard is constructed with holes built into the sides. These holes do not affect normal water flow coming from the pump. But in the event of a blockage, due to ice or other debris, the water can escape the line through these holes and prevent the sump from overflowing. The final addition to the line was the LawnScape discharge point on the end. This is where the water exits onto the ground a safe distance from the home, where it will never bother this homeowner again!
With their new system in place and keeping water out, this homeowner can now utilize their basement to its fullest storage potential. The WaterGuard will keep this basement dry for many years to come!
