Proper Basement System Protects Stetson, ME Basement From Flooding
Challenge
A homeowner in Stetson, ME was experiencing a great deal of trouble with their basement. Rain would lead to flooding within the space, which was beginning to damage the owners’ property. Needing waterproofing done as soon as possible, the homeowner called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
Upon arriving, our crew needed to find where this water was leaking in through. The moisture would leak in through the foundation, and then form puddles once inside, slowly flooding the space. To stop this, we dug out a trench around the inside perimeter of the floor. The trench allowed us to place our WaterGuard piping just beneath the surface, burying it under a fresh layer of cement. The WaterGuard captures this moisture traveling through the foundation, preventing it from pooling up on the surface. The trapped water is then guided to the sump for removal.
To keep up with the now increased flow of water from the WaterGuard, the sump in this basement received a SuperSump sump pump. The SuperSump is capable of moving over 2,600 gallons of water per hour up and out of the home through a PVC discharge line. The SuperSump will be more than enough to keep the basement water-free, but is susceptible to power outages. To counter this, we attached an UltraSump backup battery to the sump pump. The UltraSump will keep the SuperSump operational for up to 11,000 gallons of water removal before requiring another charge.
Outside the home, there were two key pieces we needed to add to the discharge line to assist with the waterproofing. The first was an IceGuard pipe segment. This piece was added just outside the home, and is built with special holes in the sides. These holes don’t allow water to exit the line unless a blockage occurs. This prevents an overflow in the sump, by letting any trapped water escape through the sides before reaching the sump. We finished the line with a LawnScape discharge point. The water is let out onto the ground here, a safe distance from the home.
Now that this homeowner has a basement system in place, they will no longer need to worry about property damage. They can even use the space for storage if they see fit! No more moisture will be gathering in this space.
