WaterGuard Dries Wet Edgecomb, ME Basement
Challenge
No homeowner wants a wet basement. Wet basements are a nuisance in that they cannot be used for much without either inconvenience, or property damage. To have their wet basement dried, and kept that way, this Edgecomb, ME homeowner called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
Once our crew arrived at the home, the first priority was figuring out how the moisture was getting into the basement, and what could be done to stop it. After identifying the entry point as the foundation, we were able to get to work! We began by digging a shallow trench around the perimeter of the basement floor. This trench is where we installed out WaterGuard piping, covering it over with a fresh layer of cement. The WaterGuard piping takes in the moisture as it travels through the concrete, preventing it from ever reaching the surface of the floor. The trapped water then has nowhere to go but to follow the WaterGuard pipes to the sump.
Within the sump itself, we installed a SuperSump sump pump to take care of removing the water. The SuperSump is capable of moving over 2,600 gallons of water per hour, which is pumped through a PVC discharge line. To keep the sump operating under any conditions, we attached an IceGuard pipe piece to the discharge line just outside the home. This segment of pipe has built in holes that do not affect normal water flow. But if the line were to become blocked by ice or other debris, these holes allow the blocked water an escape route before it can overflow the sump. Finally, we ended the line with a LawnScape discharge point. The water exits here, a safe distance from the home, where it will never be able to make it back to the basement to cause problems.
With their new basement system in place, this homeowner can now use their basement however they please. Moisture problems are a thing of the past for this homeowner!
