SuperSump Maintains Dry Eastport, ME Basement
Challenge
A homeowner in Eastport, ME was tired of their basement flooding after every time it rained. The water would leave behind a musty smell, which would propagate throughout the home. To have their water problem solved once and for all, they called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
Once our crew arrived at the home, the first thing they needed to do was determine the best way to stop the water. With a dirt basement, it was easy for moisture to enter. The moisture would always flow to the natural low-point of the floor and begin to pool up. This made this location the perfect spot to create a sump. Within this sump, we installed a SuperSump sump pump. This pump will keep the basement water-free by pumping the water up and out of the home through a PVC discharge line. The SuperSump will be able to keep up with any storm thrown at it, due to its ability to pump over 2,600 gallons of water per hour.
To assist the SuperSump in maintaining a dry basement, we made some additions to the discharge line on the exterior of the home. First, we attached an IceGuard pipe piece just outside the home. This section of piping contains holes, which will not affect the water as it flows out of the home. But if ice or other debris were to block the pipe, the trapped water is allowed to escape the line through these holes before reaching the sump and causing problems such as an overflow. The water then exits the line through a LawnScape discharge point. This far from the home, none of the water will be able to reach the basement again. It will drain away into the soil, never to cause this basement any trouble again.
With a sump in place, and additions to keep things running smoothly, this Eastport, ME home should remain water-free for the foreseeable future.
