SaniDry XP Prevents Mold Growth In Lubec, ME Basement
Challenge
A wet basement can be a serious problem for a homeowner. For this homeowner, mold growth was beginning to cause a smell to spread throughout the basement and up into their home. To put an end to their moisture problem, they called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
Once we arrived at the home and identified the source of the leakage, we were able to begin waterproofing the basement, and in turn, eliminating the mold by removing its habitat. To stop the water from entering the basement, we installed WaterGuard piping just beneath the surface of the floor. These pipes circle the basement, running along the walls. Now when moisture tries to leak in through the concrete foundation, it will become trapped within the WaterGuard pipes, where it will no longer be able to gather on the basement floor. This water is then guided trough the pipes to the sump for removal.
To help with the removal of water, and to keep the process flowing smoothly, we installed a TripleSafe sump pump in the existing sump. The TripleSafe contains three individual pumps, each serving a function. The primary pump removes the bulk of the water. The secondary pump only activates if/when the primary pump fails for any reason, taking over in the removal of the water. The third pump is a battery backup pump which switches on when the home loses power. This will ensure the water is removed, even under the most intense conditions.
With the moisture on the floor dealt with, we installed a SaniDry XP dehumidifier to deal with the moisture in the air. This device cycles through the air in the basement, pulling the moisture out and passing it to the sump for removal. The water being pumped out by the TripleSafe exits through a PVC discharge line. This line deposits the water a safe distance away from the home out of a LawnScape discharge point. This far from the home, the water will no longer be able to reach the home to cause any further problems. On its way to this point, the water will pass through an IceGuard pipe section. The IceGuard is built with holes to allow for any trapped water to escape. This will prevent an overflow in the event of a blockage due to ice or other debris.
This homeowner can now enjoy their basement, without needing to put up with a musty smell. Without moisture to thrive on, no mold will be able to grow or spread in this basement.
