Jonesport, ME Basement Protected From Water Damage With WaterGuard
Challenge
A couple in Jonesport, ME had a problem. Their basement would always flood after a rain storm. Wanting to keep their property safe from water damage, they needed this space protected as soon as possible. To get the job done fast, and done right the first time, they called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
Once we arrived at the home, the first order of business was to find where the water was entering the basement. Once we found the entry point, we could stop the water from further accessing the basement. Since the water was entering directly through the concrete foundation itself, we needed to install WaterGuard piping. These pipes are buried in a trench underneath a fresh layer of cement. The trench runs along the walls, around the perimeter of the basement floor. Within the floor, the WaterGuard pipes capture moisture as it travels through the foundation, transporting the now trapped water to the sump for removal.
Since the sump already existing in this basement had no pump, it would likely not be able to keep up with the increased concentration of water coming from the WaterGuard. To assist with the water removal, we installed a TripleSafe sump pump. The TripleSafe is made up of three pumps, each serving their own purpose. The primary pump removes the majority of the water, while the secondary pump only kicks in if the primary pump can’t handle the job on its own. The third pump is a battery-operated backup pump for when the home loses power. This device will keep the basement water-free even in the roughest conditions.
The water exits the basement through a PVC discharge line. Following this line outside, we had two more additions to make before we were finished. First, we attached an IceGuard right outside the home. This is a special section of pipe with built in holes. These holes only allow water to escape the pipe if a blockage occurs lower in the line. This will stop the water from overflowing the TripleSafe. A LawnScape discharge point was used to end the line. The water is let out onto the ground here, a safe distance from the home. It will never be able to find its way back to the home again to cause any trouble in the basement.
With their new basement system in place, this Jonesport, ME couple now have peace of mind during a rain storm. Their basement will never again suffer from water damage, or moisture related problems.
