Proper Vapor Barrier Saves Hebron, ME Crawlspace From Moisture Troubles
Challenge
A wet crawlspace can lead to many problems for a homeowner, from a bad smell to health concerns from mold growth. Seeking to have their wet crawlspace protected before any of these issues arose, this Hebron, ME homeowner called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
To help this homeowner maintain a dry crawlspace, they were going to need a proper vapor barrier put in place. To do this, we began by laying a Drainage Matting on the floor, covering it completely. This is a cover that allows water to move around beneath it, draining away slowly over time. Next, we encapsulated the space with a CleanSpace liner. This is a thin sheet of plastic which locks out moisture by fitting snugly to the walls and floor. Now no moisture will be entering this crawlspace through this vapor barrier.
With the moisture coming in from the outside blocked off, it was time to deal with the moisture already gathered within the air. To take care of this, we installed a SaniDry CX dehumidifier. The SaniDry will circulate the air within the space, taking in damp air, removing the moisture, and pushing dry air back out into the crawlspace. This cycle continues until the crawlspace is completely moisture free. The water pulled out of the air is then passed on to a Condensate Pump we installed, which will take the water and push it out of the home through a discharge line. This will rid the crawlspace of the water removed from the air.
With a proper vapor barrier in place and a SaniDry to keep the moisture out of the air, this crawlspace will never experience moisture troubles again!
