Cornish, ME Basement Protected By New Basement System
Challenge
A wet basement is not something any homeowner wants to own. But for this homeowner in Cornish, ME, a wet basement was part of their every-day life. To put an end to their wet basement troubles once and for all, they called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
Upon arriving at the home, our first order of business was to find where the water was entering through. In this particular basement, the main entry point was the foundation itself. This was due to what is known as hydrostatic pressure, or when there is enough water in the surrounding soil to force water in through the concrete. To prevent this, we installed WaterGuard piping around the perimeter of the floor. These pipes rest just beneath the surface, under a fresh layer of cement. The WaterGuard captures the moisture as it travels through the foundation, preventing it from causing problems on the surface. The water then follows the piping to the sump where it is removed from the home.
With the installation of the WaterGuard piping, the concentration of water flowing into the sump would be increased. To compensate for this, the sump would need a pump to keep up. To handle the water, we installed a SuperSump sump pump. The SuperSump can move over 2,600 gallons of water per hour out of the home through a PVC discharge line. On the outside of the home, this discharge line received a couple of additions to help keep the water flowing smoothly. The first was an IceGuard pipe piece. This section of pipe is attached just outside the home, and has built in holes. These holes only allow water to escape the pipe if a blockage occurs lower in the line. This prevents any overflow in the sump. Finally, we ended the line with a LawnScape discharge point. The water exits the line here, a safe distance from the home.
Now this homeowner can experience a dry basement, thanks to WaterGuard. No more musty smell or damp conditions for this Cornish, ME basement.
