WaterGuard Keeps Baileyville, ME Basement Dry
Challenge
A homeowner in Baileyville, ME was having trouble with water leaking in through their dirt basement floor. Without any form of barrier, the water was able to easily pool up. This was beginning to cause a smell which would propagate through the home. Needing this to stop, the homeowner called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
Once our crew arrived, our first order of business was to give the basement an actual floor. We installed a concrete slab to do just that. This slab was not an ordinary slab, however. Water can leak in through typical concrete, causing the same problem which already exists within this basement. But the slab we installed contained WaterGuard piping running along the perimeter. The WaterGuard pipes capture any moisture traveling through the concrete, preventing it from reaching the surface. This captured water is then guided by the piping to the sump for removal.
To handle the removal of the water, we installed a TripleSafe sump pump. The TripleSafe contains three pumps within it to keep it operating under any conditions. The primary and secondary pumps handle the bulk of the water. The secondary pump, however, only activates when the primary cannot handle the entirety of the water or fails for any reason. The third pump is a battery-operated backup pump. This will ensure pumping continues even when the home is without power.
The water being forced out by the TripleSafe exits through a PVC discharge line. Following this line outside the home, there were still two key pieces in keeping this basement water-free. The first being the IceGuard. The IceGuard is a section of pipe connected to the discharge line just as it leaves the home. This special piece of piping has built in holes that do not affect typical water flow. But in the event of a clog lower in the line, the trapped water can escape without overflowing the sump. The final piece was the LawnScape discharge point on the end of the line. This is where the water is let back out onto the ground a safe distance from the home. This water will never be able to reach the basement again.
This homeowner no longer needs to put up with an awful smell emanating from their basement. Thanks to WaterGuard, their basement should remain dry for years to come!
