WaterGuard Keeps Guilford, ME Basement Water-Free
Challenge
Paul of Guilford, ME had been living with a wet basement. However, the basement began to smell, and trips down stairs were never pleasant. Tired of these conditions, Paul called TC Hafford Basement Systems and we were on the case!
Solution
Upon arriving, we needed to identify the entry point of the moisture. This turned out to be the foundation itself. This is a very common entry point for moisture. When enough water builds up in the surrounding soil, the pressure can force some of that water in through the concrete. To stop this water in its tracks, we installed our WaterGuard piping around the perimeter of the floor. These pipes rest just beneath the surface of the floor, and capture the moisture as it passes through the foundation. The trapped water is then guided to the sump where it will be removed from the home
To keep up with the now increased flow of water coming from the WaterGuard, this basement was going to need a pump. To handle this job, we installed a TripleSafe sump pump. The TripleSafe, as the name suggests, contains three pumps within it. The primary pump takes on the bulk of the water, removing it through a PVC discharge line. The secondary pump kicks in when the primary pump either fails, or cannot keep up with the amount of water. The third pump is a battery-powered backup pump for when the home loses power. The TripleSafe will ensure this basement remains dry, even in the roughest conditions.
Now that the water on the floor has been addressed, it was time to deal with the airborne moisture. To do this, we installed a SaniDry XP dehumidifier. The SaniDry will take in the moist air from the basement, pull the water out, and pass that water to the TripleSafe for removal. The dry air is then pushed back out into the basement to cycle more moist air back to the SaniDry. To finish this job, we needed to move outside and make a couple adjustments to the discharge line previously mentioned. The first addition we made was an IceGuard section attached to the line just outside the home. The IceGuard is a special piece of pipe with built in holes that allow for any trapped water to escape through. This will prevent an overflow in the sump if any ice blocks the pipe. We then ended the line with a LawnScape discharge point, where the water is let out onto the ground a safe distance from the home.
This new basement system is sure to keep Pauls basement dry and healthy. No more musty smell or damp conditions for Paul!
