Leaking Peru, ME Basement Receives Much Needed WaterGuard
Challenge
Suffering from a wet basement, this couple in Peru, ME didn’t know what to do about it. Unable to stop the leaking themselves, they called TC Hafford Basement Systems to get the job done right.
Solution
Once we arrived at the home, we needed to determine the main entry point of the moisture. This being the foundation itself, it was no surprise that the homeowner couldn’t find a way to stop the leakage. Luckily for them, TC Hafford has just the fix for this kind of leak. We dug a trench into the floor, running along the walls. This trench is where we then installed a WaterGuard piping system. The WaterGuard system sits beneath a fresh layer of cement, capturing water as it travels through the foundation. This trapped water is then guided to the sump for removal.
Due to the increased concentration of water being directed to the sump, the existing sump within this basement was going to need an upgrade. To achieve this, we installed a SuperSump sump pump with an UltraSump attached. The SuperSump will take care of the water removal, boasting a removal force of over 2,600 gallons of water per hour. This is enough to handle even the largest storms. The UltraSump is a backup battery which will keep the SuperSump pumping even when the home loses power. This combination will easily take on any storm over this home.
The water being pumped out travels through a PVC discharge line, which carries the water a safe distance from the home. This water exits the line through a LawnScape discharge point, far enough where it will never be able to reach this basement again. In order to help keep the whole system working fluently, we attached an IceGuard pipe section onto the discharge line just outside the home. The IceGuard is built with holes in it which do not affect normal water flow. However, in the event of a blockage in the line, these holes allow the water to escape without backing up and overflowing the sump pump.
With their new automated system in place, this couple will no longer need to manually remove water from their basement. They can now utilize the space however they like without fear of water damage.
