Palermo, ME Basement Waterproofed With WaterGuard
Challenge
No homeowner wants a wet basement, and for this homeowner in Palermo, ME, they couldn’t quite get the dampness to go away. After trying and trying, they eventually decided to have it done professionally, and they called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
Once our crew arrived at the home, the first order of business was to identify the entry point of the moisture. We discovered the entry point being directly through the foundation itself. When the water in the surrounding soil builds up enough pressure, it can force moisture through the concrete, into the basement. To prevent this from causing leaks in the future, we installed our WaterGuard piping around the perimeter of the basement floor. Resting just beneath the surface of the foundation, the WaterGuard captures the moisture before it reaches the surface, preventing any moisture from gathering to cause problems. This water is then guided to the sump for removal.
Because the WaterGuard was going to be carrying an increased amount of water to the sump, the sump was going to need an upgrade. We installed a SuperSump sump pump to handle this increase in water. The SuperSump can move over 2,600 gallons of water per hour up and out of the home through a PVC discharge line. This line carries the water a safe distance from the home before it exits through a LawnScape discharge point. Here, the water will never be able to find its way back to the basement. To keep the sump safe from an overflow, we attached an IceGuard section to the discharge line just as it exits the home. This special piece of pipe is built with holes that do not affect normal water flow. But in the event of a clog, the water can escape without backing up the sump.
This homeowner is now free of a wet basement, and is now the proud owner of a proper basement system. The WaterGuard should keep this basement dry for years to come!
